Week 12 Bets:
Giants @ Eagles +6.0 (-120)
This is Frank Reich week for me, betting against the Eagles and for the Colts, mostly because of how I feel about coach Reich. Two years ago, I didn’t think Eagles coach Doug Pederson was very good. Last year I changed my mind on that. And now, I am changing my mind back! Losing Reich to the Colts appears to have been huge for the Eagles, as they now struggle on offense and the Colts offense is gangbusters. I’ll take 6 points here versus this (slightly resurgent?) Giants team.
Bills vs. Jaguars +3.0 (-105)
Last week was embarrassing for the Jaguars. The Steelers played pretty poorly and the Jaguars still could not do enough to hold them off after being ahead for most of the game. Unless they bench Blake Bortles, I will not be betting for the Jaguars again this season. So, I’ll take the Bills at home with the 3-point cushion.
Colts vs. Dolphins -8.0 (-105)
Frank Reich-related bet #2. The Colts offense is fantastic and the Dolphins struggle on defense. The Dolphins have only held opponents to under 27 points twice this year, and those times would be against the Jets week 2 (12 points) and against the Jets week 9 (6 points). (Maybe I should be betting against the Jets more?) I don’t think 8 at home will be a problem for this Colts team on the rise.
Titans @ Texans +6.0 (-115)
This was a bet on principle. The Texans play a lot of close games, man. Six of their 10 games have been within 6 points and 2 more were within 7. Give me another close game with this surprising competent Titans teams who will have their starting quarterback Marcus Mariota returning this week from injury.
Steelers @ Broncos -3.0 (-120)
I’m chalking last week up to a fluke for the Steelers. They won, but didn’t cover the spread. Part of that was due to a remarkable performance by the Jaguars defensive line and how well they did to shut down Pittsburgh’s run game. The Broncos’ line is much worse than the Jags’ so I expect Steelers running back James Connor to get it going this week in Denver.
